Privacy policy for DayPrivate, an offline task manager

The app and this website are two different things with two different answers. Both are below, and the app is the short one.

Does DayPrivate work offline?

Yes. DayPrivate is an offline task manager: the outline, the plan and the time blocks live in a database file on your own device, and the app makes no server call in its normal running. There is no account and no sign in, so a plane, a tunnel or a hotel connection that keeps dropping changes nothing about what you can open or edit.

Two things reach outside that file, and only if you switch them on. Syncing moves encrypted change sets between your own devices through your own iCloud Drive. Reading your calendar, which is what the DayPrivate time blocking grid draws around, uses the calendar already on the device. Turn both off and DayPrivate still opens, still edits, still runs a timer.

Where does DayPrivate store your tasks?

In one local database file on your own device, at a path the app will show you. DayPrivate has no server of its own, so there is no copy of your outline sitting on a DayPrivate machine anywhere. If you turn on syncing, your devices exchange encrypted change sets through your own iCloud Drive under a passphrase held in the device keychain, and we never see the contents.

Inside that file, text is written a moment after you stop typing and structural changes immediately. DayPrivate also keeps a snapshot of the database once per local day and holds the newest thirty. The same facts sit beside the product in the privacy section of the DayPrivate overview.

Does DayPrivate need an account?

No. There is no sign up, no password and no profile, because there is nothing to log in to. That is also why DayPrivate cannot lock you out of your own work or email you about it: the file is yours and the app reads it from your disk.

Is DayPrivate a self-hosted task manager?

No, and it does not need to be. Self hosting exists so your data stops living on somebody else's server, and DayPrivate reaches the same result without the server: the file is already on your Mac, iPad or iPhone, with nothing to install, patch or back up beyond the app itself. If you want a database you administer, a self hosted tool is the better fit and DayPrivate is not it.

What DayPrivate measures inside the app

DayPrivate measures nothing inside the app: no analytics, no crash pings, no usage counters. Not anonymised, not aggregated, none. The optional writing features refuse any endpoint that is not the machine you are sitting at, in code rather than as a setting, and there is no cloud fallback. Voice input is transcribed by Apple's on device speech recognition, so the audio is not sent anywhere.

What this website measures

dayprivate.com is ordinary web hosting and it does measure things, because we need to know which pages people read. It uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Clarity records anonymised session activity such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, and masks text you type by default. These run in your browser on this site only and never touch the app or your plans. Any content blocker will stop them and the site still works.

The DayPrivate waitlist

DayPrivate is not on sale yet. If you join the waitlist we store your email address so we can tell you when it opens. It goes into DayPrivate's own storage and into the email platform DayPrivate uses, which is Bento. We do not sell or share it. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.

What DayPrivate never does

• Read, scan or upload what you write in the app
• Sell or rent your email address
• Use your plans to train anything

You can ask what DayPrivate holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to [email protected] and a human will answer.
